REC2

REGE 30 JUN 13

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 9th. June, 1913.

With reference to paragraph 2 of your Despatch 1/854 No. 116 of the 30th. April, I have the honour to state that the

following houses which now remain in existence received the letter

of the 27th. February, 1911, viz.:- the Imperial and the New

Travellers. The following houses which also remain in existence,

received the original notice of 17th. October, 1910, viz.:- the

Grand, the Criterion and the Central. All the other houses in

question have gone out of business. I am unable, however, for my

part, to see sufficient reason in the circumstances to justify

different treatment of these two groups; but, unless you desire to

reconsider your instructions, I shall carry out the directions

which you have given with regard to payment of compensation.

I regret that in my Despatch of the 30th. of

August, 1912, the Central, which is only a bar, was by a mis-

-understanding omitted from the enumeration of houses which at

that time were open.
